You ever walk out of an eye exam more confused than when you came in? So do I. You nod through it, as your optometrist talks about something or other about “optic nerve pressure” or “refractive error.” And then you head home and think. wait, was that serious?
Most folks have that experience. That’s why I did something about it.
This site is for people like us. Regular people trying to understand our eye health. I’m not an eye doctor, and I don’t pretend to be. But I spent years trascribing medical reports. Pages and pages of real conversation between doctors and patients. Somewhere along the way in the last few decades, I thought, “Wow, a lot of people are walking out of appointments with more questions than answers.”
And that’s why I started writing down the things that I wish somebody had told me in plain English.
Medi-Type is where you’ll find all that stuff. No fuzzy medical jargon. Just information that makes it possible for you to be proactive about your vision care.
What This Site Is All About
Good information can change your entire method of doing eye care. You don’t have to go to med school or read academic journals on your off time. You just need to know what to ask. It’s about getting the little changes early, before they become big problems. It’s about being able to say, “Hey, something’s not right here,” and having the words to back it up.
You don’t have to be a doctor to understand your own body. You just need someone to tell you in words that make sense. That’s what I’m trying to do here with Medi-Type.
The kind of stuff you’ll read here:
- What to ask your eye doctor next time
- Plain English explanations of conditions like astigmatism, macular degeneration, and those weird flashes of light you saw last week
- Red flags you can’t ignore (and when to get help. No messing around!)
- Info on insurance, glasses prescriptions, and what to expect during standard eye surgeries
Why Trust Me?
As I said, I’m not an optometrist. But I’ve read thousands of their notes.
My name is Marianne. I previously worked as a medical transcriptionist before coming on board at Medi-Type. If you’ve never heard of it, then think behind-the-scenes journalist but in the healthcare sector. Listen, type, pay very close attention. As the years pass by, you develop an idea of what’s the crucial part, what’s glossed over. What’s said, what’s not.
I observed how frequently patients were perplexed, overwhelmed, or simply too polite to ask what something was. And I understand. Nobody likes to be dumb. But asking intelligent questions doesn’t make you difficult. It makes you an advocate for your own health.
No Marketing. No Sales. Just Real Talk.
I don’t sell miracle cures or vitamins. I don’t even have a newsletter that shows up five times a week. My goal is simple: calm you down and inform you better about your eyes.
If you’re coming to see me for the first time, I recommend starting with one of these:
- 5 Questions to Ask Your Eye Doctor at Your Next Exam
- How Vision Can Signal Other Health Problems
- What to Do If Your Vision Suddenly Changes
They’re not long reads, but they’ll give you a good start. And maybe they’ll make you think about your next checkup differently.
